When I was quite young - around twelve I think I came across and was captivated by the work of New Zealand artist, Peter McIntyre. I'm sure his influence has played a role in my own work.

Known for its breathtaking landscapes and stunning natural beauty, New Zealand has been an inspiration to countless artists over the years (myself included). Among them, one name stands out as a master of capturing the essence of Aotearoa in his art - Peter McIntyre. With a career spanning several decades, McIntyre's work has left an indelible mark on New Zealand's art scene, showcasing the country's diverse landscapes and unique culture.

Peter McIntyre was born on July 4, 1910, in Dunedin, New Zealand. From a young age, he displayed an immense talent for art, and it became clear that he was destined for a career in the world of painting. He went to England in 1931 to attend the Slade School of Fine Art and after graduating worked as a commercial artist in London. When WW2 broke out he enlisted in the army and ended up becoming NZ's official war painter.

What sets McIntyre apart from other artists is his extraordinary ability to capture the spirit and soul of New Zealand's diverse landscapes. His works are a beautiful blend of realism and impressionism. I particularly love the way he portrays the light in so many of his paintings.
